College Magazine


In this blog i will be analysing a amateur front cover of a collage magazine promoting their collage.


  • The layout of the magazine is simple and also eye catching. The colour schemes that have been used for the production of this magazine is an example of what i inspire my own to look like.  i would like to have the editing and skills to produce a magazine at this potential 


  • The main image is dominating the front cover, The model or student used for the main image has been protrade in a medium shot, its is also shot in a high key lighting connoting that the college is happy and a safe place to be.. The fact that he is holding books is showing us that he is studying. However, it also suggests that the collage mainly focuses on subjects like Law, business and society. The front cover is defying the stereotypical view of collage students. They aren't the 'geeky' or 'dorky' hard working students anymore, they're more trendy and fashionable type as well as hardworking that is represented on the front cover.

  •    The masthead has been used in a dramatic way. It is a bright and eye catching colour. But it is positioned behind the student or model. The reason most magazines use this technique is because they are showing their magazine should be recognised.

  •  College lifestyle is identifying with the customer, identifying with the customer is a big aspect to the front cover because it is showing the audience that the college is more than just a place to learn. The students would relate to it and would be more attracted to buy the magazine. The cover line that are seen are seen around the magazine are layered on top of the student or model, unlike the masthead. This effects should make the customers now what the magazine is even though the masthead is place behind the model/student.

  • The cover lines used are ways in which a magazine will target an audience. For example "make money on campus". The reason i think this identifies and targets the audience is because students are known as having less money and the magazine is not only entertaining students but also helping them to make money, this would commonly attract the younger students. "Why we love blackberry" is another cover line that identifies with the audience. This is because mobile phones are the most common form of communication that the younger generation are using, they would be interested in this and blackberry's are one of the most popular phones.
