FEMINISM

Feminism In Media
Feminism - the advocacy of women’s rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes.
The issue of rights for women first became prominent during the French and American revolutions in the late 18th century. In Britain it was not until the emergence of the suffragette movement in the late 19th century that there was significant political change. A ‘second wave’ of feminism arose in the 1960s.

The Magazine focuses mainly on music. Each issue of the Magazine contains a new front cover, the front cover only contains a picture that is relevant to the image on the front. The Women on the front cover of the Magazine is Katy Perry. On recent magazines there are a lot off women, mainly to catch the target audiences eye, which is a male audience. However, this my seem bad because to other females because its making them out to be disrespectful of themselves.
After this feminism gradually grew and changed the way woman were represented in terms of their appearance, women started to change in the eye of the public view.

Katy Perry, she's always got a different style of clothing on every photo shoot she does, whether that be a modelling photo or a magazine cover photo. With her wearing different clothing on each front cover is providing the targeted audience with what they expect from the magazine and what she had made her self out to be, this is also good for the magazine as it allows it to sell more. In reference to Laura Mulvey's male gaze, in this photo of her she's showing a lot of skin and not wearing a lot of clothes. A lot of men will find her attractive and will view her as something to look at in reference to their own personal objectification. Women will buy the magazine to read about her, and to try and identify themselves to her, maybe to copy her style. This also relates to the feminist thoery on the males, the males with gaze upon her. Most women wont men to take notice in them so Katy Perry is a role model.
